At Whimstay, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our travelers while allowing reasonable use of security devices for property protection. The following guidelines establish acceptable practices for cameras, recording devices, and other monitoring equipment. Your privacy matters. These guidelines ensure that both travelers and hosts feel safe and private.
Prohibited use
No indoor monitoring:
Security cameras and recording devices are strictly prohibited inside properties listed on Whimstay, regardless of whether the devices are active or inactive.
Areas where privacy is expected, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and all other indoor spaces, must never be recorded or monitored.
No hidden devices:
Hidden cameras or recording devices are prohibited under all circumstances, whether indoors or outdoors.
Permitted use
Exterior cameras:
Outdoor security cameras, such as doorbell cameras or driveway monitors, are permitted solely for security purposes.
Exterior devices must not capture footage of any interior spaces of the property (e.g., through windows or open doors).
These devices must not monitor areas where travelers have a heightened expectation of privacy, such as enclosed outdoor showers or saunas.
Disclosure requirements:
Hosts are required to disclose the presence and location of all exterior cameras or recording devices in their property listing.
Disclosures should specify the location of the device and the areas it monitors (e.g., "Front yard monitored by a doorbell camera" or "Pool area under surveillance by an outdoor camera").
Smart home devices:
Smart devices, such as thermostats or voice assistants, are allowed. While disclosure is encouraged, travelers should be given the option to deactivate or unplug these devices during their stay if feasible.
What to do if you discover an undisclosed device
Unlisted devices: If a traveler finds a monitoring device not disclosed in the property listing or a device that captures interior spaces, they should contact Whimstay's customer service team immediately.
Privacy concerns: Any discovered device violating this policy may result in enforcement actions, including account suspension or removal from the platform.
Policy enforcement
Hosts who fail to comply with this policy may face account suspension, removal from the Whimstay platform, or penalties. Violations may also result in refunds or other remedies for affected travelers.
