For hosts: Taxes on Whimstay

Updated over 2 months ago

Whimstay can collect taxes from your guests, but you're responsible for remitting them. Here's how it works.

Tax collection

If you opt in, Whimstay will collect taxes from guests at checkout. Your tax rate syncs automatically from Airbnb, so you don't need to set anything manually on Whimstay. This makes it easier to collect the right amount without calculating it yourself.

Tax remittance

Whimstay collects the taxes but doesn't file or remit them to tax authorities. Once we collect the taxes from your guests, we pass those funds directly to you. You're responsible for reporting and paying them to the appropriate agencies.

Opt out of tax collection

If you prefer to handle tax collection yourself, you can opt out. In the Taxes & fees section of your listing setup or host dashboard, check the box that says "I don't want Whimstay to collect taxes on my behalf."

Understanding your tax obligations

Local tax rules vary by location. We recommend checking with a tax advisor or your local government to find out what taxes apply to short-term rentals in your area. Whatever tax rate you set on Airbnb will automatically sync to Whimstay.
